Week 2: Superheroes

I don’t quite have a favorite superhero, there are so many. Superheroes have qualities such as: unprecedented strength, the ability to keep secrets (mainly to hide their identity), and to do no evil. Each individual superhero has their own personal qualities, but each is very similar.

A hero is someone you look up to, like a role model. They are someone you count on to be there for you when you’re in danger or in need of comfort. A hero is a person who, to you, doesn’t seem to do anything wrong, but does everything right.

So far Beowulf is pretty easy to understand. He’s a hero that a town of people seem to put a lot of pressure on to keep them safe. He fights his nemesis’s to make sure that his townfolk aren’t harmed, but gets harmed in the process.

Some of my reading strategies are to listen carefully while others are reading the story, to listen to the teacher when she is talking about the story, to read the side notes/definitions if I don’t understand something, then possibly look the story up online if I still don’t understand. I basically just try to focus all my attention on the story so that I don’t get confused.

Week 1: Leaders

A leader is someone a group can trust. You need a leader who is trustworthy if you want them to lead you to success. A leader is also someone who is honest. Honesty kind of ties in with trust; a leader needs to be honest with their actions to withold the trust of others. A leader needs to be competent, they need to have the skills to run something and be able to keep sane under certain pressures. They need to also be intelligent. Intelligence can tie in with competence because a leader needs to have the smarts to be able to have the skills. Lastly, they need to be creative and straightforward.

Some examples of leaders would be: Abraham Lincoln (former US President), Nelson Mandela (former South African President), Alexander the Great (Greek Conqueror), and Joan of Arc (French military leader). All the people listed have/had shown that they can/could be great successful leaders throughout world history.
